A camp for allied prisoners of war. After it was turned over to the SS officers, it became a camp ran by Nazis in 1943. Beginning in fall 1944 the SS officers deported to Bergen-belsen. A large number of prisoners evacuated from Nazi camps for the east.
In Bergen-belsen there were 50,000 people there who died. One of the prisoners there who died was Anne Frank. She was one of the most famous child diarist in the holocaust.
In the prison it had Jews, prisoners of war, political prisoners, gypsies, criminals,Jehovah's Witnesses, and homosexuals. These people were put in jail because of how the looked, and what religion they believe in. They also were treated terribly such as being killed, whipped, or worked very hard.
